The Art of Public Speaking: My Soulful Speaking Method

Many people will try to tell you that there is a ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ way to speak – raise your voice, use your hands – basically, conform to what it means to be a great public speaker.

I’m not one of those people, and I’ll bet you aren’t either.

Anyone who tells you there are hard and fast ‘rules’ when it comes to public speaking, isn’t doing you a service. Sure, there are guidelines, but as far as I’m concerned, there is more to great public speaking than technique.

That’s where I come in.

I’ve been a coach for almost 6 years, and I’ve learned a lot about how people like to feel about their lives, businesses, and leadership journeys. Most importantly I’ve learned, that our mindset is one of the most important assets – how we choose to think about ourselves, our lives and our work is very powerful.

Speaking is no different.

90% of what results in a great speech or presentation happens BEFORE you get onto the stage, or into the boardroom, or in front of the camera. I’m not just talking about preparation – that’s key, for different reasons to the ones you might think – no, no, I’m talking about mindset.

I realised very quickly that people don’t just need a checklist/framework/structure for writing a great presentation or speech (though that’s great too and we’ll talk more about this on the blog and in our courses), they need help feeling more confident with being visible, with sharing their ideas, with putting their name to something, and not dreading doing that for days before and feeling like they’re in a shame shitstorm for days afterward they speak. Nobody should feel like that.

You are not an imposter.

You have incredible ideas to share, and we all need your magic and knowledge, and ideas in the world. Whether that’s your expertise in your corporate job and sharing that with the project team, or C-suite, whether that’s a keynote speech in your own business as an entrepreneur, whether it’s sharing your research with a classroom, or even a TEDx talk. The approach remains the same. Mind your mindset and create messages that matter. So many M’s!

This is what soulful speaking is all about. That’s why I created the Soulful Speaking Method – to help you master the art of more confident public speaking.

Now, because I love the letter M, I’m going to give you the three key M words that will transform your relationship with public speaking forever.

Speaking mastery = MINDSET + MEANING + METHOD

Everything here on KateCashman.com comes down to these three key areas. I provide free content, coaching, speaking, and products and courses to support you with how you think and feel about speaking (‘mindset’), who YOU are as a speaker, your stories, and finding your own golden threads to share (‘meaning’) and finally (and there’s a reason this is last), information on HOW you can do this in a really soulful, supportive and structured way so that your ideas and magic are shared clearly and passionately with the world (the ‘method’).

This is the method for speaking mastery that will help you feel more confident, more at ease, and more at home in sharing your ideas through public speaking. The soulful speaking method combines over 12 years as a professional speaker as a lecturer and paid speaker in my businesses as a coach and as a consultant.

I believe in you, and you deserve to have your ideas and magic out in the world, so speak up.
