You can do hard things - TEDx 2022

This is your reminder that you too, can do hard things.

I am still buzzing from the high that was TEDx Hobart, 2022.

I had the privilege and the honour of co-curating, co-MCing and being the lead speaker coach for 9 incredible speakers for the first TEDx event in Hobart for seven years on Saturday.

If you don’t know what I mean by TEDx, you can find out more here: https://www.ted.com/participate/organize-a-local-tedx-event/before-you-start/what-is-a-tedx-event.

Let’s just say, inspiring people, doing incredible things, and sharing it on a small red carpet in under 18 minutes.

The event was an outstanding success – for the speakers, for the city of Hobart and for our state of Tasmania.

Speakers, performers, and short films graced the stage at the Studio Theatre in Hobart, for the event themed ‘Of Land and Sea’.

I can’t wait to share more of the photos and this experience, but I wanted to share my initial thoughts and lessons I learned from the speakers and performers.

Each of the people who got up on stage demonstrated incredible courage.

They showed me and everyone in that audience that WE CAN DO HARD THINGS.

Did everyone on the stage think they would be a TEDx speaker one day?

Many might have dared to dream that, but for others applying was something that felt so far out of their comfort zone that they didn’t expect to ever be in that position.

Despite that, they put up their hand and did it anyway.

This is your reminder that you too, can do hard things.

You can share your story, you can share your work, your research – whatever it is, you can share it with the world.

It may not be a TEDx stage (or it may be, who knows!), but just know, that you are infinitely more capable than you imagine.

I saw people get up on stage and do things that, until recently, they didn’t even believe were possible.

But they felt the fear, and did it anyway.

From courage and curiosity comes confidence. Slowly, but surely sometimes, but it comes.

I’m celebrating the courage of these TEDx speakers and asking you – what do you need courage to do in your work and life, and how can you give yourself permission to step forward?

I’m here to support you, to cheer for you and to help you build your belief until you can build your own.
